to Kids' Corner - Brazil

Brazil is famous for its soccer, its carnivals,
the Amazon River and the rainforest. It is an enormously varied country. In fact, Brazil is the 5th largest country in the
world, after Russia, Canada, the US, and China. With an area of 8.5 million square
kilometers (how many square miles?), Brazil is larger than the lower 48 US
states.

| The imaginary
line that divides the globe into two hemispheres - the equator
- crosses the country, but most
of its territory is in the southern hemisphere. |

Brazil lies
on the eastern side of South America, and
is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the
east and the Andes Mountains on the
west. |
 |

with nearly all other South American countries, except two.

The language
spoken in Brazil is Portuguese.
People living in the rest of South
America speak Spanish, except for those in three
countries: Guyana, Suriname, and
French
Guiana - they speak English, Dutch, and French,
respectively.
