Musica Brasileira Brazilian Music

So what does typical Brazilian music sound like? Tough question considering that there isn’t a typical Brazilian sound. Fans of International music will claim that the Brazilian sound is Samba (like the sound of the Carnival), Bossa Nova (think “Girl from Ipanema), or classic singers like Tom Jobim (who recorder with Sinatra!) and Carmen Miranda (who helped spread the Brazilian name in Hollywood).

However if you ask your average boy or girl you might get an answer like: Axé – a new sound from Bahia with a strong  African influence that is very fun to dance to – Brazilian Rap, Brazilian Rock, Forró, MPB (Popular Brazilian Music) and even American artists of all genres!

Now you can listen to Brazilian music, everything from Axé to Tropicalism! Try a sample of the classic Bossa Nova, the famous samba, our contemporary Brazilian rap or Rock! p.s this site is in English! J http://www.allbrazilianmusic.com/en/Styles/Styles.asp

So how did it all start?

As you explore Brazilian music you will find that it truly reflects Brazilian society and its people. It is open, diverse, rich and harmonious. Brazilian music, like its people, is an eclectic mix of European, African and Indigenous influence. In Brazil, diversity is accepted and embraced. Brazil is one of the few countries in the world where people of all races can live together in peace and without tension. Brazilians take pride in being able to use all of its cultural influences to create something that is new and completely different from anything you’ll hear around the world.

Music in real life…

It’s been said that in Brazil there is a constant soundtrack. Everywhere you go you’ll hear music, at parties, soccer games, bars, television programs, restaurants and of course the beach and the streets. Several important Brazilian cultural activities use music. It’s impossible, for instance, to think of Carnival without music.

You will find drummers in every important soccer game. To the Brazilians, soccer is a form of art. The way to play the game is as important as to score a goal. In what Brazilians like to call ‘futebol-arte’ or “art-soccer” you have to play beautifully. The choreography asks for a sound track and that is why music and soccer have always being together. The music is an influence in the way players play and the game is a source of inspiration for the composers that helped to create some of the best Brazilian tunes.

In Brazil music affects television in a big way. A good example are novelas, what most people watch during primetime. Novelas are Brazilian soap operas. They are an important part of Brazilian culture. The novelas are set in various parts of the country, which gives the Brazilian people a chance to get to know the culture and trends of different parts of Brazil. Novelas always have theme songs, which always become very popular. Even among people who don't watch soap operas, it is rare to find a Brazilian home where nobody knows to sing the sound track tunes of the current soap opera.
